A True Black Beauty

Shady Meadows' Her Majesty's Princess Charlotte

D.O.B. 10/15/2016  (2 yrs)

Huacaya, Female, Non-Breeder | True Black

Full Peruvian
Sire: Hooli Two | ARI# 1350869  | Medium Fawn
Dam: Crane Creek's Her Peruvian Majesty | ARI# 32007084  | Light Fawn

A True Black Beauty. Charlotte is just gorgeous and is a ball of energy. Sire and dam are full Peruvian.

Said of her grandfather "MA San Pedro," "This guy is an alpaca of the truest black color you'll ever see. His mother is a jet-black Peruvian import, and his father is the famed "El Negro," the first, and still the foremost, black stud imported from Peru. His conformation and fleece quality complete this super stud. San Pedro's crias have hit the ground and have been amazing. He has been passing his large bone, extraodinary fleece and exceptional leg coverage to all!"

UPDATE: Charlotte is a beautiful girl, but she was born with angular limb deformity, commonly referred to as "Knock Knees." While we have observed others born this way, all have self-corrected, but this is not the case with Charlotte. In fact, hers has become more severe and has come to affect her quality of life.

I transported her to the Missouri University Animal Health Center in Columbia, MO for an exam/evaluation. In the end, her prognosis is not terribly positive. Staff DVM Rachel Oman, interns and students estimate that she will have early onset arthritis and will have a shortened life span, perhaps 8 years at best. Further it was recommended that she never be bred due to the physical demands and the concerns that this could be congenital. Dr. Oman also suggested that should her condition worsen and the efforts to manage her physical pain be unsuccessful, humane euthanasia should be considered.

We are currently considering options for Charlotte. She has bright and lustrous fleece and could produce good fiber for her owner during her life span, however long that turns out to be.

We are currently administering Meloxicam every three days to manage her pain. She seems to be responding well and has improved activity levels. She has been on her feet grazing with the herd as opposed to being kushed down and grazing whatever is in reach.

UPDATE 10/01/17: Charlotte is doing great and has not exhibited any signs of pain in quite awhile. She is moving and grazing (and running) with the herd. She appears to have adapted to her situation and holds her own in the herd.

Charlotte is registerable, but we are not registering her at this time.

We are offering this beautiful little girl as a pet/fiber animal for the low price of $299. No breedings are included at this price.
